we aim to drive real and lasting change

Protecting children through awareness and action.

At Hidden Scars Inc , we are a purpose-driven organisation dedicated to preventing child abuse in all its forms. We are committed to bringing hidden abuse, neglect, and psychological harm out of the shadows by raising awareness and taking grounded, practical action — particularly around the underlying mental health factors that often contribute to harmful behaviour.

We exist to support children, families, and individuals who are often unheard, unseen, or misunderstood, ensuring their experiences are acknowledged, validated, and met with meaningful care. Through support services, clinical care, advocacy, and prevention, we work to break cycles of harm and create safer futures built on awareness, protection, and healing.

  • We are not afraid to raise uncomfortable truths or challenge what too often goes unrecognised. We stand beside both victims and those at risk of causing harm, working to interrupt cycles of abuse, strengthen understanding, and educate communities.

Our Core Focus Areas

Mental abuse and neglect shape the way
children feel, think, trust, and grow.

Emotional Abuse

Harms a child’s sense of self, security, and belonging. It often comes from those closest to them, leaving invisible, long-lasting scars.

Psychological Abuse

Affects how a child thinks, processes the world, and makes sense of themselves. Its impact can be deep and long-lasting, often hidden from view.

Neglect

Deprives a child of the care, attention, and support they need to grow safely and confidently. Its impact can shape every aspect of their development.

2023 Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS).

Mental abuse is strongly linked to major depressive and
anxiety disorders, substance dependence,
self-harm, and suicide attempts.

In Australia in 2023‑24, 57% of children with substantiated maltreatment had mental abuse
recorded as the primary type of abuse. (AIHW)
